ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 16-year-old boy from Sherrill was seriously injured Thursday morning in a Dubuque County crash on Gun Club Road, half a mile north of Epworth—he crossed into oncoming traffic, struck a towed trailer, and was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while being cited for failing to maintain control.  Radio Dubuque

CRIME NEWS

  • 45-year-old Maurice Randolph, a Chicago man who conspired with others to distribute cocaine from 2017 to April 2021 near Dubuque parks and schools, pleaded guilty on December 5 and was sentenced to over 24 years in federal prison after a co-conspirator’s sale on February 14 led to a Dubuque woman's death—he and two others will jointly pay nearly $14,000 to her family.  Radio Dubuque

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dubuque County Sheriff Joe Kennedy told the Board of Supervisors earlier this week that he would not sign the ICE agreement—citing limited resources and concerns about making the county a sanctuary. He said his deputies will only assist with arrests rather than taking on immigration enforcement duties, despite pressure from the National Sheriff’s Association.  The Gazette

  • The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the Gazette-area boys' qualifier list for the 2025 state track and field meet; championships will be held next Thursday through Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines (the list includes event-specific top seeds).  The Gazette
  • Iowa high school girls’ soccer regional playoffs start next Wednesday, May 21, with 24 teams in three classifications set for quarterfinal games—Class 1A on Wednesday and Classes 2A and 3A on Friday; semifinals will take place on May 28 and finals on May 30 before state tournament play in Ames begins with quarterfinals on June 3, semifinals on June 5 and championship matches on June 7.  The Gazette
