- ➤ Officials from the DNR warned that bears are returning to Iowa with sightings rising to more than four per year, mainly in May and June when young bears search for food. Residents are advised to keep a safe distance (100 yards) and use loud noises to scare bears away if encountered. WJOD

- ➤ The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall for about 3,800 Dlesot Snap Hair Clips sold on Amazon between April and September due to lead levels above federal limits — consumers have been advised to stop using the clips and contact manufacturer YFLGOTOO for refund instructions by providing a picture of the disposal — no health issues have been reported so far. - ➤ Free, virtual panel discussions on cancer will run this week from today through May 16 as experts talk about Iowa’s rising cancer rates, new treatments at UI’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, and risks from federal research funding cuts—topics include causes, screening, and economic impacts.
