- ➤ Diverse holiday events are set for eastern Iowa this weekend after several were rescheduled due to last week’s snow. In Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Mount Vernon & Dubuque, communities will enjoy tree lightings, breakfasts with Santa, and festive activities. KCRG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents can recycle unwanted holiday lights at designated drop-off points including the Municipal Services Center, Carnegie Stout Public Library and county library branches from Nov. 10 through Jan. 10. The initiative has recycled over 12,000 pounds and offers year-round electronic recycling at the DMASWA Landfill — for appointments. KWWL

- ➤ Iowa law bans keeping pet raccoons except when from a licensed breeder (law enforcement will remove illegally kept animals and issue citations), a reminder to residents to steer clear of domesticating these wild creatures. WJOD

- ➤ The iconic Field of Dreams in Dyersville will host two baseball contests in August 2026. On Aug. 11, the Iowa Cubs will face the St. Paul Saints in Minor League play, followed by a Major League game on Aug. 13 between the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies (tickets are available online).
