COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Archdiocese of Dubuque announced a restructuring plan that will merge 161 parishes into 27 to 29 pastorates by 2027 to address a nationwide priest shortage (nearly 182,000 Catholics may lose weekend Masses at 83 mostly rural churches). Parishioners said they feel rushed and unheard and want more time to work on solutions to keep their church communities strong.  KWWL
  • The Dubuque Colts Youth Organization said longtime executive director Jeff MacFarlane will retire in August after more than 20 years with the group—13 of those as chief executive. The organization has started the search for his replacement to lead programs like the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps.  Radio Dubuque

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Iowa DNR said furbearer populations are in good shape as the season that started Saturday and runs until Feb.28 (beaver season lasts until April 15) proceeds. Trappers have joined beginner workshops by the Iowa Trappers Association to learn safe trapping methods and manage critters on their properties.  The Gazette
