- ➤ The Sherman Swift Tower on Highway 52 near Garnavillo has been restored to honor Althea Sherman, a teacher and bird expert who studied Chimney Swifts. Tours are available on request to let visitors learn about her life and the tower’s role in bird conservation. WJOD

- ➤ A recent study found that Iowa ranked 41st in support services for disabled veterans—many veterans with disabilities do not receive the proper care they need. The report measured factors such as access to VA facilities and veteran charities and shows that improvement is urgently needed. WJOD
