- ➤ Declan, a 1-year-old, 43-pound dog with a goofy smile, is now healthy and available for adoption at Dubuque Regional Humane Society (4242 Chavenelle Road) with a reduced fee of $125 under the Tackle Dog Homelessness promotion. He loves meeting new people and may do best with a confident canine companion who can help him adjust. WJOD

- ➤ The Western Dubuque School Board is holding a public hearing today to decide whether to issue nearly $42-million in bonds for renovating Drexler Middle School in Farley & the proposed improvements include a new secure entrance, classrooms, commons area, cafeteria & a wrestling room. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Dubuque Public Works Department announced that residents can schedule a leaf collection appointment from Oct. 13 through Nov. 26 to have leaves, pine needles, and pine cones removed from curbs following strict guidelines (service costs start at $20 per 40-bag equivalent with extra charges for additional bags). - ➤ A $28.2 million flood prevention project in Dubuque is on hold after a 2020 fertilizer spill raised concerns about water contamination. An environmental study is underway and project delays may extend completion until 2029—officials are reviewing the water quality issues. KCRG
