Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 25th of September.
Good morning, Dubuque.
💼 Business
Marshalls will open its first Dubuque store next summer at Kennedy Mall in a 24,000-square-foot space—next to Books-A-Million.
The new store is expected to attract shoppers from northeast Iowa as well as nearby Wisconsin and Illinois.
📰 Economy
A recent study shows that nearly 40% of Americans have less than $1,000 saved for emergencies while funerals in Iowa average almost $9,400—forcing families to consider cheaper options such as cremation.
Many may have to borrow money to cover these costs, which adds financial stress during a difficult time.
🌲 Environment
After months with no cases, Iowa wildlife officials said they found bird flu in Canada geese at two Dubuque County sites—raising concerns that the virus could spread during fall migration.
They also reported similar detections in nearby areas and urged poultry owners to monitor their flocks closely.
