  • Pet of the Week Perry is a 2-year-old cat with chronic sinusitis and dental disease — he remains affectionate and chatty and is available for adoption at Dubuque Regional Humane Society. The Meow Luau event runs until August 31 and adopters will draw a lei flower to get a discount on the adoption fee.  WJOD

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A vehicle crashed into a downtown Dubuque building on Sunday at around 4 p.m.—74-year-old Betty Accola from East Dubuque was injured while trying to park, with minor damage reported to the building.  Radio Dubuque

  • Anderson Sainci and Nancy Bradley filed papers yesterday to seek a third four—year term on the Dubuque Community School board while DeLano Cain—Watson also filed for a ballot spot and is running for Dubuque City Council Ward One.  Radio Dubuque

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, researchers from the University of Iowa and City of Dubuque tested a pump system in Coralville that simulates a rainstorm capable of flooding over 1,000 local businesses and homes. The pump is part of the Bee Branch Watershed Flood Mitigation Project— a $250 million effort that will redirect storm water to natural creeks, ponds, and green spaces, with construction set to finish by August 2027.  Radio Dubuque

  • Western Dubuque senior Quentin Nauman, who finished a state track race in 3:59.60—making him the first Iowa high school boy to break 1:50 in the 800 meters—is now moving into cross country with his first race scheduled Saturday at Cedar Rapids Prairie. He said he aims to break the 14:56 Fort Dodge course record and build on his past success.  The Gazette
  • Rookie linebacker Jay Higgins from Iowa made the Baltimore Ravens’ 53-man roster Tuesday after recording 15 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception in three preseason games. Undrafted initially, he now joins the team — his strong performance earned praise from defensive coordinator Zach Orr — and aims to build his career in the NFL.  The Gazette
