CULTURE NEWS

  • Dyersville will host a two-day music festival at Field of Dreams this weekend—Tim McGraw will headline Saturday and Nickelback Sunday while organizers expect over 33,000 fans and law enforcement warns residents of heavy traffic.  Radio Dubuque

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northeast Iowa Community College has chosen Nick Fisch, the Dubuque County Deputy Auditor, to fill the District 9 seat on the board serving the Dubuque Community School District as he replaces Geri Schilling-Johnson who moved out — the move secures local oversight.  Radio Dubuque

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Dubuque Police Department is changing its hiring process by conducting its own initial testing and updating the collective bargaining agreement to attract experienced officers—Lt. Luke Bock said the goal is to speed up training and deployment.  KWWL
  • Engineers from the City of Dubuque and experts at the University of Iowa's IIHR—Hydroscience and Engineering lab built a scale model of a new pump station to test how it will work in various flood conditions in the Bee Branch Creek Watershed. They will use the results to find issues like vortex formation before installing the station to reduce future flood damage.  KWWL
  • The Dubuque County Auditors Office announced that candidates for the November city or school election may file papers today—Dubuque filing began August 11th and will close this Thursday while other filings will end on September 18th.  Radio Dubuque

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A Dubuque family drove 90 minutes to Madison’s Henry Vilas Zoo where they enjoyed free admission and saw polar bears, red pandas, and other animals — they noted that parking fills quickly so arriving early is best.  WJOD

  • The sixth-ranked Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks are set to start their season Friday at home against Washington — the team aims to open 3-0, secure a district title, and push for a deep playoff run. Returning all-state talent boosts their hopes to reach the state semifinals for the first time.  The Gazette
  • Major League Baseball will host a game at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville next season—featuring the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies scheduled for next August. The historic field previously hosted games in 2021 and 2022.  Radio Dubuque
