COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dubuque residents can vote online for Envision 2030 until Friday—this initiative by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce collects ideas to improve the region. The process will narrow more than 3000 proposals to a top 30, with a committee set to choose 10 final ideas to be announced at an October event.  Radio Dubuque

  • Dubuque Police arrested 44-year-old Dylon Bly after he threatened several people with a knife and law enforcement in the area of East 17th Street + Central Avenue shortly after 11 o'clock Saturday, and he faces two counts of assault for using a dangerous weapon and making a threat of terrorism.  Radio Dubuque

  • On Monday, U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks toured two Iowa manufacturers where leaders credited federal tax changes with fueling expansion, research, and workforce training—Jason Andringa of Vermeer said lower corporate tax rates let the company plan for long-term growth and future hiring. The tour underscored how these tax provisions boost confidence among manufacturers facing global competition.  The Gazette

  • University of Dubuque was honored on Phi Theta Kappa’s 2025 Transfer Honor Roll for its work to help community college students transfer smoothly — the school partnered with Northeast Iowa Community College and launched Community Reach 99 to lower tuition and shorten degree timelines.  KWWL
  • The Yes for Dubuque Schools committee launched a campaign to support a proposed bond revenue vote this November that will combine $70 million from bonds and $51.9 million from a one-cent sales tax to build a new middle school on the site — merging Washington and Jefferson schools — needed to avoid deeper budget cuts. The group — cochaired by Michael Fullan and Jordan Fullan — said the district may face larger classes and school closures if the levy fails.  Radio Dubuque
  • Third graders in Iowa begin their second year of mandatory cursive instruction this school year, supported by a free online tool called CLIFTER from the Iowa Reading Research Center—designed for teachers and parents to improve handwriting—while educators hope the program will boost reading skills following low pandemic-era scores.  KCRG
