ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Highway 61 south of Dubuque near the Buncombe Road intersection around 6:10 last night, a semi-truck driver who pulled aside to check his load was struck from behind by another vehicle and pronounced dead—one passenger was taken to the hospital for evaluation.  Radio Dubuque
  • On August 11 at 6:11 p.m. on Highway 61 just north of the Buncombe Road intersection, a southbound SUV hit a semi-truck whose driver, Canadian Jayesth Paul, was checking his load and was killed while Maquoketa driver Kaylynn Knight was injured—emergency crews responded promptly and cleared the scene by 9:00 p.m.  WJOD

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 1 near Cascade, officers stopped James Sherrill during a federal drug probe and after he did not exit his car, he struggled with an officer—he pulled a handgun and was shot dead while a sergeant was injured.  KCRG
  • Dubuque Police arrested 25-year-old Davion Trawick and 44-year-old Donta Euells on charges of armed home invasion after they broke into a residence on the 1900 block of Amelia Drive Saturday night—Trawick reportedly pointed a rifle and Euells carried a handgun—and they may face further charges.  Radio Dubuque

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Mark Youth Enrichment delivered back-to-school kits to 3,600 Dubuque Title 1 students this week, but the non-profit remains $54K short of its $212,400 goal—volunteers hope donations cover the supply costs so families can concentrate on learning.  KCRG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Torrential rains with 5 to 6 inches of rain over the weekend forced the temporary closure of Swiss Valley Park and Campgrounds while Dubuque County Conservation inspects flash flooding damage that knocked down trees and damaged bridges — campers evacuated safely to higher ground.  Radio Dubuque

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced a recall of DermaRite Industries’ medical soaps, creams, and cleansers on August 9th due to possible Burkholderia cepacia contamination that may cause serious infections in vulnerable patients. Healthcare providers in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin are urged to check their stocks, stop using the affected products, and dispose of them safely—no adverse cases have been reported so far.  WJOD
