- ➤ Preliminary data from a point-in-time count conducted July 30 and 31 shows unsheltered homelessness is growing in Dubuque County with at least 40 people living outside—the highest summer count since the pandemic. Volunteers distributed supplies while officials plan follow-ups to support those in need. KCRG
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Dubuque teenager was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Iowa District Court of Dubuque County on July 31 for charges including assault on a peace officer—he pleaded guilty after a December 2024 Christmas Eve incident near University Avenue and Alpine Street where officers said he threatened others and carried a dangerous weapon. - ➤ Iowa crops progressed slightly ahead of schedule despite wet conditions that limited field work — a USDA report from July 21 through 27 showed corn at nearly 90% good to excellent and soybeans, oats, and hay rated between 81% and 86%, and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig warned that the conditions could rank this July among the top ten wettest on record.
