  • The U.S. Department of Education awarded the University of Dubuque a $1.32 million TRIO Student Support Services grant that will support efforts to boost retention and graduation rates for low-income, first-generation, and disabled students over the next five years—continuing a 15-year program that helped nearly 900 students last year.  Radio Dubuque

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dubuque firefighters say none of the six stations have the four-person minimum recommended by the National Fire Protection Association — union president Will Sullivan and Fire Chief Amy Scheller explained that adding 10 new firefighters over the past three years did not solve the staffing shortage — and they warn the shortfall could compromise emergency response safety.  Radio Dubuque
  • The City of Dubuque Public Works Department will begin spraying weed control on the land side and rip-rap areas of the flood control system starting Monday, July 28.
