COMMUNITY NEWS

  • County fair season is underway as the 72nd annual Dubuque County Fair begins free for everyone today at the fairgrounds off Old Highway Road and runs through Sunday with races, truck and tractor pulls, grandstand entertainment, and a demolition derby — the Jackson County Fair in Maquoketa runs from Tuesday through Sunday with an admission fee for ages 13 and free entry for children under 12.  Radio Dubuque
  • The Port of Dubuque Marina is hosting a Lighted Boat Parade on Saturday, August 9—boat owners are invited to participate and decorate their vessels with 70s, 80s or 90s decor. The entry deadline for boaters is Monday, July 28 and a $50 fee covers perks and a chance to win prizes.  Radio Dubuque

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Loras College in Dubuque earned a 4-star rating on Money magazine’s Best Colleges list for 2025. The evaluation looked at net price, loan repayment rates, graduation outcomes and post-graduation earnings—fewer than 20 percent of over 700 schools received this recognition.  KWWL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Golden oyster mushrooms, native to eastern Asia, are rapidly spreading in local forests and are linked to reduced fungal diversity on dead hardwoods—research shows trees with these mushrooms host only half the native variety compared to trees without them. Foragers enjoy their nutty flavor, but experts warn that their continued spread may require changes in cultivation and management.  WJOD

  • City officials reported that Miller Riverview Park and Campground reopens today after the river level dropped enough to allow access – visitors should expect muddy spots and areas with standing water.  Radio Dubuque
  • Due to asphalt paving work, an eastbound lane on N. Grandview Ave between Clarke Dr. and Atlantic St. will be closed from 6 a.m. today until 5 p.m. on July 25; motorists must follow the posted detour or choose another route.  Radio Dubuque

  • The City of Dubuque Health Services Department is seeking help to identify a Burmese Mountain dog involved in a biting incident at Dubuque Pet Park on North Grandview Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday—its white male owner left the park in a maroon sedan.  Radio Dubuque
