  • Seafood lovers in Dubuque will soon enjoy Cajun-inspired seafood boils as Laughing Crab takes over the former Carlos O’Kelly’s location at 1355 Associates Drive. Renovations are underway to transform the space into a new restaurant—part of a regional expansion—while details on its opening remain pending.  WJOD
  • Anthony Williams, the new CEO and president of the Dubuque Racing Association and Q Casino+Resort, visited Radio Dubuque Studios this week and will officially take charge on July 1. He brings experience from MGM and will lead Key Hotel+amphitheater projects on Schmitt Island with the hotel scheduled to open in December.  Radio Dubuque

CRIME NEWS

  • Taylor Lange, a 32-year-old Dubuque man, pleaded guilty to assaulting an older individual outside a local residence in August 2022 and injuring a woman in a domestic assault in October 2022—he was sentenced to two years and two months in jail.  Radio Dubuque
  • Eastern Iowa man Cody Kinzie Dittmar, 34, was convicted on Wednesday in Cedar Rapids for selling heroin and fentanyl that caused a couple in Marion to die from an overdose — he now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years — after a three-day trial.  KCRG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dubuque Regional Airport and TSA will host a TSA Pre-Check event from July 22nd to July 25th with walk-in appointments available — however, making an appointment soon is recommended as times fill up fast. Travelers enrolled in TSA Pre-Check can use a quicker security screening at over 200 airports.  Radio Dubuque

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recalled pasta meal sold at Walmart & Kroger was linked to a deadly Listeria outbreak that infected 17 people in 13 states and resulted in 3 deaths, including a case of fetal loss. Officials advise anyone who bought the product before June 17 to discard it and seek medical care if symptoms develop.  WJOD

  • Carson Nolan fouled off three pitches then hit a three-run triple in the top of the seventh that rallied Benton Community to a 4-3 win over Mount Vernon on Thursday night at Ash Park Field — it was the Bobcats’ first comeback win this season. Coach Seth Patterson said the win gave the team valuable experience in close games.  The Gazette
