- ➤ With the holiday weekend nearing, barge companies on the Mississippi River are telling boaters to keep a safe distance from loaded barges that move 5 to 10 mph—since a full barge takes over a mile to stop. American Commercial Barge Line advises boaters to follow tips—like turning on lights and keeping alert—to help prevent accidents on the water. KWWL
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ After his preliminary hearing yesterday, 26-year-old Bailey Foht was charged in the hit and run death of 38-year-old Kalissa Reeder, who was struck at the Locust and Loras intersection, and his arraignment will be held on July 7th as he faces two felony charges of homicide by vehicle, two charges of involuntary manslaughter and a driving while barred charge. - ➤ The Dubuque Metro Area Solid Waste Agency offers certified compost that meets or exceeds United States Composting Council standards for consumer use. Residents can self-load less than one cubic yard for free at four locations — the Dubuque County Landfill entrance, the Municipal Services Center, the City of Epworth, and Cascade — while larger quantities require scheduled appointments at the agency’s compost facility.
