- ➤ Walmart is removing self-checkout lanes at its Dubuque store and other Midwest locations after customers complained about theft and confusing technology. The update will finish on July 27th—shoppers will soon notice more staffed checkout lanes for a smoother experience. WJOD

- ➤ Local squirrels and other animals are cooling off by splooting—lying flat on cool surfaces to lower their body heat during hot summer days. This natural tactic helps wildlife adapt to intense heat in backyards, parks, and wooded areas around Dubuque. WJOD
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Less than two weeks after the first case, a second positive case of Theileriosis was detected in southeast Iowa, a disease spread by parasites in Asian Longhorned Ticks that can cause severe illness in cattle. Iowa State Extension beef veterinarian Grant Dewell said the infection is unlikely to spread widely because much of the state lacks the tall grass habitat the ticks need—officials plan to increase tick control efforts to protect herds.
