- ➤ Today the Dubuque Regional Humane Society highlighted Dust Bunny, a three-legged dog who recovered from surgery, as Pet of the Week and made him available for adoption. Volunteers say he is playful and energetic — he needs a loving home. WJOD

- ➤ Dubuque Regional Airport data showed flights to O’Hare were 33% full until the airline shifted the departure to 7:50 a.m., increasing occupancy to 41% after May 16. Airport officials waived fees and offered discounts—hoping to boost ridership to 80% and eventually add more flights or a new hub. KCRG
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Dubuque man was sentenced for leading police on a high speed chase downtown after fleeing a March 20th traffic stop—he pleaded guilty to eluding and driving while barred and will serve two years in prison. Radio Dubuque
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Archdiocese of Dubuque will mark the newly renovated Cathedral of Saint Raphael with a special Mass and open house on Sunday, June 29 at 5 o’clock in downtown Dubuque—an event that will also feature a presentation on the renovations, light refreshments, and guided tours. The Cathedral reopened in mid-April after six months of interior work as part of a $10-million facelift. Radio Dubuque

- ➤ Today, Greater Dubuque Development and the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce hosted a virtual town hall meeting to stress the need to keep and grow daily flights from Dubuque Regional Airport to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, with Mayor Brad Cavanaugh and Chamber President Molly Grover urging travelers to compare costs using the True Cost of Travel calculator + supporting local air service for future regional growth. - ➤ Experts say that loss of trees from the 2020 derecho and factors such as mowing and seeds on hikers' shoes have helped poison hemlock spread in Eastern Iowa—this toxic plant can grow up to 10 feet tall and is dangerous if ingested or touched. The Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Dubuque Parks and Recreation Commission is inviting residents to submit park name ideas for a new park in South Pointe by July 16 (proposals must include reasons for the chosen names). The park (scheduled to finish construction this fall) will feature playground equipment, swings and a picnic table. WJOD
- ➤ The Dubuque City Council voted unanimously last night to accept a $3.4 million settlement from 3M over eight years to lower water rate increases beginning July 1st—this change means water bills will rise 8% instead of 9%—reducing the average monthly cost by about 40 cents. Radio Dubuque
