- ➤ The Dubuque chapter of the Salvation Army will open an 11-thousand square foot thrift store at 32-50 Kennedy Circle on Friday, June 27th — the store will include a donation center and will direct part of its revenue to the Adult Rehabilitation Center in Davenport that helps with recovery from substance abuse. - ➤ Mississippi Valley Fair has revealed its 2025 live music lineup for free shows during the fair from July 29th–August 3rd. The schedule spans venues such as the Farmers Tent, Craft Beer Tent, Oldies Stage, Pavilion Stage, MH Entertainment Stage and Variety Tent — performer times may change. WJOD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ New Horizons Academy, a new daycare facility, will open this week at 799 Locust Street in downtown Dubuque to serve over 80 children enrolled up to a capacity of 180. The center was built for employees at Cottingham and Butler—though open slots are available to the public—and started after crews demolished the former Joliet Events Center in fall 2023 with nearly $9-million in construction costs and a $3-million grant to support the project. - ➤ Some Dubuque residential and business property owners may qualify to receive free trees by checking the interactive map on Sustainable Dubuque. Eligible owners must fill out an online interest form by July 31 for fall planting+ an official will follow up if their property qualifies. Radio Dubuque
- ➤ After the legislative session, Iowa's Forest Reserve Program remains unchanged to give tax breaks for maintaining healthy woodlands. The Iowa Woodland Owners Association — led by advocates Tim Meyer and Paul Millice — said they will continue teaching landowners key forest practices as new bills may be introduced next year.
