  • City officials and police warn that traffic on July 3rd at A.Y. McDonald Park will be heavy because construction projects and lane closures force drivers to take major detours—visitors may face delays over 30 minutes after the fireworks. Officials advise arriving early and planning extra time to clear the area safely.  WJOD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Goose, a Main Street business, faces financial strain after neighbor FEH Design demanded it pay half the cost of a firewall project, which has risen from $22,000 to $38,000. Construction work is blocking the sidewalk and creating dust, and co-owner Noah Riley will raise the issue at the next city council meeting.  KWWL

CRIME NEWS

  • Dubuque Police are investigating a Hempstead High School employee accused of possessing child sexual abuse material and computer-generated images of students (images created outside of school) after an alert from the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in April led to the suspect being placed on leave and schools reaching out to affected families.  Radio Dubuque

  • Iowa's Board of Regents received dozens of emails criticizing a proposed policy that would bar courses with diversity, equity, and inclusion and critical race theory content—prompting regents to review and change the plan before a final decision next month.  The Gazette
  • Saint Mark Youth Enrichment launched its annual campaign—Apples for Students: Fill the Bag—to help local students get the supplies they need for school this fall. The nonprofit will serve more than 3,600 students across 30 schools in Dubuque, East Dubuque and Western Dubuque with donations and volunteer support.  Radio Dubuque

  • A Dubuque doctor from UnityPoint Clinic says that patients are suffering more severe asthma symptoms due to poor air quality from Canadian wildfire smoke — he advises those with respiratory issues to limit outdoor exposure, wear a mask, and use air purifiers indoors.  KCRG
