  • Local community groups are stepping in to help provide meals for kids during summer break in Dubuque by offering free food boxes and casserole meals. Convivium Urban Farmstead supplies weekly casserole meals while Riverbend Food Bank hosts biweekly food box pickups—boxes claimed in just seven minutes this week show the strong community need.  KCRG

CRIME NEWS

  • Dubuque police charged 23-year-old Naiche Jacobs with first degree arson after he allegedly started a fire on a loading dock at 499 Main Street on June 2nd—he was later arrested and taken to Dubuque County Jail with a $20,000 bond.  Radio Dubuque

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a drug pricing law on Wednesday that limits pharmacy benefit managers from keeping the difference between what they pay pharmacies and what they charge insurers—forcing a pass through pricing model. The law aims to protect local pharmacies and will be watched closely for any unintended effects on health care costs.  The Gazette
  • Greater Dubuque Development and the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce will host a virtual town hall on Tuesday, June 17 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. to discuss plans to expand air service at Dubuque Regional Airport—attendees will get updates from Denver Air Connection and may win round-trip tickets.  Radio Dubuque
  • Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds vetoed a bill that would restrict eminent domain for hazardous liquid pipelines on Wednesday because she said it threatened energy reliability and future projects — House Speaker Pat Grassley has asked lawmakers to sign a petition to call a special legislative session to override the veto.  The Gazette

  • Wildfire smoke from Canada continues to affect eastern Iowa with an air quality alert issued last week that raised asthma symptoms among local patients—Dr. Adrian Letz at UnityPoint Clinic said many have experienced shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness.  KWWL
