- ➤ Summer meal programs for children 18 and under in Dubuque began on June 9 and will run until August 8 at several community sites while select school sites serve meals from July 7 to August 1 (breakfast and lunch times vary). KCRG
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday night shortly after 10, the Epworth, Farley, and Centralia Fire Departments fought a fire at the Paul Mausser farm at 7728 Bierman Road near Epworth and crews put out the flames from a building with farm equipment and hay with damage estimated at $450,000—no injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation. - ➤ The Dubuque Community School Board met Monday night to consider a new policy that would ban personal electronic devices during class time—except for high school students allowed to use theirs in the cafeteria at lunch—and to review the contract and benefits for Superintendent Amy Hawkins. - ➤ Today, Northeast Iowa Community College held its first Partners in Excellence event to honor six local employers for supporting education and workforce development. The event recognized Medical Associates, MercyOne, Fidelity Bank and Trust, Decker Precision Machining, Hormel Foods, and A.Y. - ➤ Dubuque’s 2024 water quality report showed PFAS levels at 4.2 parts per trillion, exceeding the EPA advisory while no drinking water violations were reported — city officials are planning $15M in projects and a new deep well over the next five years to reduce PFAS from shallower wells.
