  • Dubuque Regional Humane Society named Lilith as Pet of the Week; she is a friendly 2-year-old 46-pound dog who loves belly rubs. The shelter at 4242 Chavenelle Road can be reached at 563-582-6766 for those wanting to adopt her.  WJOD
  • Opening Doors has supported over 6,000 women and children facing homelessness and marks 25 years of service. Today it hosts a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Maria House (1561 Jackson Street) to celebrate its impact.  KCRG

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters put out a farm building fire in Dubuque County Wednesday evening when crews from the sheriff’s office and the Farley, Epworth and Worthington fire departments arrived at the 7800 block of Comer Road – the blaze caused about $40,000 in damages and did not appear suspicious.  KCRG

CRIME NEWS

  • Dubuque Police stopped 34-year-old Austin Cochran for expired license plates at the intersection of Foothill Road and Key Way Drive on Monday night, where a K-9 alerted to a homemade explosive device—made with beer cans, paper towels, red tape, a green fuse and black powder—hidden in a black trash bag in his vehicle, leading to his arrest on charges of possession of explosive materials or destructive devices as Dubuque Fire Department and Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office safely removed and detonated the device.  Radio Dubuque

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Environmental Protection Agency reported on Wednesday that air quality in eastern Iowa, including Dubuque, was unhealthy as smoke from Canadian wildfires rolled south. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources issued an Air Quality Alert until 6 a.m. Thursday—advising people with health issues to limit outdoor activity.  The Gazette

  • West Ninth Street between Locust Street and Main Street in Dubuque was closed for private electrical utility work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday—motorists were advised to follow posted detours and use alternative routes as the schedule may have changed due to weather or contractor adjustments.  KWWL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Jim Potts gave a final speech to his Xavier boys’ tennis team—his words fired up the doubles teams that helped them win 5-3 over Dubuque Wahlert in the state championship match. The win gave him his sixth state title and ended his 12-season career on a high note.  The Gazette
