- ➤ Andrea Runde, a longtime Hempstead teacher (since 2003), is set to become assistant principal and registrar for the 2026-2027 school year at Hempstead High School, replacing Jared Deutsch who will become principal at Dubuque Senior High School. KWWL
- ➤ In 2024, Clarke University spent $696,084 on its men's basketball team in Dubuque, falling $336,069 short of the state average as reported by the U.S. Department of Education. Dubuque Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ NOAA forecasts a developing El Niño will influence Iowa weather this fall and winter, bringing milder temperatures with occasional snowstorms and increased rainfall that may lead to flooding and affect spring planting. Farmers and residents should monitor updates for seasonal shifts. WJOD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kim Reynolds signed a new law yesterday in Iowa City at Stead Family Children's Hospital to tax vape products and nicotine pouches. The first $3 million raised next year will fund pediatric cancer research at the University of Iowa. KCRG
- ➤ Iowa DOT reports the Julien Dubuque Bridge closure is now set to begin on June 10; eastbound lanes will close for nine hours daily until early July, both lanes will shut until August, and westbound lanes will close until mid-September with Highway 20 detouring via highways 61 (and 151). KWWL
