- ➤ A benefit event was held Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hanover Fire Department—201 Fillmore Street—to support three Elizabeth Fire Protection District firefighters, First Assistant Chief Rob Pearce, firefighter Trent Breed and probationary firefighter Troy Vail, who were seriously injured in early April while fighting a grass fire in Jo Daviess County. - ➤ The TSA now bans portable chargers with lithium-ion batteries from checked bags and requires they be carried in the cabin — a rule aimed at reducing fire risks in cargo — which many travelers will need to follow when flying from Eastern Iowa Airport. WJOD
- ➤ Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley said he expected Gov. Reynolds to sign the new bill that regulates hazardous liquid pipelines and limits eminent domain after the Legislature passed it earlier this week. Grassley is also considering a run for governor and will decide in the coming weeks—citing his family and farm concerns. The Gazette
- ➤ State lawmakers approved a $9.425 billion budget for the next fiscal year starting July 1, using reserve funds to cover a $917 million shortfall caused by lower revenues after tax cuts. The plan increases allocations for education & healthcare & judicial services as it aims to keep taxes low and maintain fiscal discipline. The Gazette
