  • Brett Butler runs Corgwyn Rehabilitation Sanctuary in Oelwein where he cares for 63 rescued corgis on his 6-acre property. He has been using his retirement funds to pay nearly $5,000 a month in costs and is asking for long-term support to keep every corgi safe.  WJOD
  • This Saturday, May 17th, Usha Park will host Kite Tales from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where families can design and fly their own kites + enjoy live demonstrations. City conservation officer Nate Johnson, horticulturist Kelly Goossen and outreach coordinator Kaytlan Moeller will share conservation tips + provide free parking at Usha Park with overflow at The Journey Assembly of God Church.  WJOD

  • Two former bar owners felt relief when the roof of their closed Shenanigans Bar partially collapsed on Tuesday — prompting city officials to condemn the building that neighbors had long feared was unsafe, while an investigation continues and the landlord must repair or demolish it.  KWWL
  • A 16-year-old boy from Sherrill was seriously injured in a Dubuque County crash at 7:08 a.m. Thursday when he crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a towed trailer — he was cited for failing to maintain control.  KCRG

CRIME NEWS

  • A Chicago man admitted to conspiring to distribute cocaine near parks and schools in Dubuque from 2017 to April 2021, which led to a young woman's death, and he was sentenced on December 5, 2024—receiving over 24 years in federal prison and a joint penalty of $13,911 to pay the victim's family.  KCRG

  • Due to concrete sidewalk restoration, W 5th St. in Dubuque will have an eastbound lane shift at Bluff St.—this change is in effect immediately until Noon on Monday, May 19, and motorists must follow posted detours or choose alternate routes; contact the City of Dubuque Engineering Department for questions.  Radio Dubuque
