EDUCATION NEWS

  • The school district approved a $30 million bond to expand Roosevelt Middle School and close Jefferson Middle School amid lower enrollment; a petition by May 25 could trigger a vote. The district also set a special election on Sept. 8 to raise funds for maintenance through an increased levy.  KCRG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A pair of peregrine falcons has returned to nest at the Dubuque County Courthouse, with a live camera showing the female guarding three eggs. Conservation officials note she now has a new mate (a familiar change seen in previous seasons).  Radio Dubuque

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 13, the TSA removed its screening equipment from Dubuque Regional Airport after daily flights ended on Jan. 14 — airport leaders said plans are in place to restore air service once an air carrier provides a letter of intent.  KWWL
  • Bridge cleaning on highways 61 and 151 begins tonight for the Iowa Department of Transportation over the Lake Peosta Channel — lane closures will last from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the next two to three days.  KWWL

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • This summer, cyclists can explore eight top bike trails in Iowa, including the 89-mile Raccoon River Valley Trail near Des Moines and the Heritage Trail from Dubuque to Dyersville (ideal for any skill level) amid 1,800 miles of available routes.  WJOD
