  • A discarded cigarette in an ash tray caused a house fire early Saturday morning at 3775 Hillcrest Road in Dubuque as firefighters arrived just before 5 a.m. and put out flames that spread to the kitchen and dining room — with damages estimated at $28,000 and no injuries reported.  Radio Dubuque

  • Casey's apologized after removing its popular BBQ Brisket Pizza amid customer backlash and announced that the fan-favorite option—topped with brisket, BBQ sauce, ranch drizzle, mozzarella, cheddar, jalapeños and red onions—is returning for a limited time.  WJOD
  • The Ground Round, a Dubuque favorite that closed in 2013 due to unpaid bills and other issues, was revived in Shrewsbury in January by Joseph and Nachi Shea with new recipes like baby back ribs and blackened chicken Alfredo—offering a taste of cherished memories while leaving fans hopeful for a Dubuque return.  WJOD

  • Dubuque man Kentrell Powell was sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison for attempting to shoot a police officer during an August incident involving stolen liquor bottles from a gas station—he must also serve three years of supervised release.  Radio Dubuque

  • Legal experts explain that engagement rings are conditional gifts—if a wedding does not occur in Iowa and Wisconsin, the ring returns to the giver, while Illinois courts decide ring ownership based on who is seen as responsible for the breakup. After a couple marries, the ring usually becomes the property of the recipient.  WJOD
  • Delaino Cain-Watson, a recent University of Dubuque graduate and entrepreneur, announced his candidacy for the Dubuque City Council Ward One seat this fall along with banker Tyson Leyendecker as Susan Farber will not seek a second term—he manages cases for HIV patients at Dubuque Visiting Nurse Association while running his small business and having served as vice president of student government managing a $100,000 budget.  Radio Dubuque
