- ➤ Nancy Van Milligen is retiring as president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque at the end of this year (she will take on a part-time senior role next year). She has led the organization since 2003 while supporting over 300 local nonprofit partners. Radio Dubuque
- ➤ Hy-Vee is supporting veterans in Iowa through its Homefront initiative by rounding up purchases and matching donations up to $100,000, with service members receiving free coffee on Wednesday mornings and a free breakfast on May 20, while also partnering with the USO to distribute hygiene kits. - ➤ Dubuque’s oldest farmers market run by Dubuque Main Street will open this Saturday and run each week through October. The market will feature local produce, farm cut flowers, fresh food, and unique crafts — executive director David Barba said the event is a red letter day on the annual calendar. Radio Dubuque

- ➤ In April, Iowa breweries earned nine medals at two international competitions, capturing gold, silver, and bronze at the World Beer Cup in Philadelphia on April 22 and Best of Craft Beer Awards in Oregon on April 13—spotlighting local brewing success. - ➤ Vintage Torque Fest kicks off today at Dubuque County Fairgrounds with hot rods, live music & racing while activities support Helping Hannah’s Heart Foundation. The festival continues tomorrow with auto shows, a pin-up contest and community events for all ages. WJOD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Dubuque is converting a former insurance building on Main Street into Iowa’s first new medical school in over 100 years; construction is set to finish this year and the school will enroll first class in fall 2028—expected to boost downtown and help ease the state's doctor shortage. - ➤ The University of Dubuque hosted a tour of its new three-story medical school building under construction downtown with city officials joining the event. Construction began in September 2025 and will finish in December, with classes set to start summer 2028. KWWL
