EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting in July, Iowa will require high school students to pass a multiple-choice civics test modeled after the naturalization exam before receiving their diploma; schools will offer the exam annually for grades 9 to 12 (with accommodations for students with IEPs, 504 plans, English learners, or significant cognitive disabilities).  WJOD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carolyn Kelly is named as Dubuque Forward’s new Downtown Strategy and Partnerships Director and will lead the Downtown Core Strategy by coordinating with public and private partners downtown to drive redevelopment projects. She most recently served as Director of Communication and Research at a national transportation research non-profit.  Radio Dubuque

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Field of Dreams Ballpark at the Field of Dreams Movie Site will open with the If You Build It High School Series—a six-game showcase featuring Dubuque County and Eastern Iowa high school baseball teams from June 17 to June 26; tickets go on sale starting April 27.  KWWL
  • High school baseball players from Cascade, Dubuque, Dyersville, Bellevue, and Anamosa will play in the Field of Dreams High School Series this June at the new pro ballpark at Field of Dreams. The series runs June 17 to 26, with Cascade facing Beckman on Thursday, June 18 (a hometown matchup).  WJOD
