COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After an EF-2 tornado damaged homes in Lena, a Dubuque nonprofit sent about 15,000 pounds of water and food and is asking for more donations (including cleaning and hygiene supplies) to aid recovery. Community members can support these efforts as the cleanup continues.  KCRG

BUSINESS NEWS

  • UnityPoint Health announced it will cut 207 IT positions across Iowa, including in Dubuque, with layoffs set to begin on July 24. Affected team members will receive severance, benefits continuation, and career transition support (per the WARN notice).  WJOD

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival returns this week for eight days — showcasing international short films, guest speakers and world premieres — and boosts local businesses with a six-figure economic impact as it runs through Saturday.  KWWL
  • Q Casino + Resort's Back Waters Amp will host an epic summer concert on Friday, July 10, featuring headliner Hairball, The Pork Tornadoes, and local openers The Deal Breakers. Tickets start at $25 for a riverfront night that may spark more live music events.  WJOD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi River in Dubuque is at 15.2 feet and is forecast to rise to 16.8 feet Wednesday while staying below the 17-foot flood stage—keeping Miller Riverview Park and Campground closed until officials update the reopening date.  Radio Dubuque
  • Eastern Iowa communities can now apply for a no-cost Iowa DNR Tree Planting Grant (offering $10,000 to $30,000 from the USDA Forest Service) to plant trees on public land and boost urban canopy in areas like Dubuque by reducing heat and runoff.  WJOD

  • The Iowa Pork Producers Association is taking nominations for its Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin Contest, which began on April 15; submit your nomination online by Monday, June 1 at 11:59 p.m. to help top local restaurants earn cash and plaques + recognition, with winners announced in October.  WJOD
