  • Peppercorn Food Company, an award winning Iowa caterer, plans to open a new restaurant on Central Avenue in Dubuque later this April by taking over the former home of Pusateri’s Restaurant. The expansion will include a full charcuterie experience and a make-your-own cheeseboard class — scheduled May 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. — that teaches guests board design.  WJOD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pattison Sand Company asked the DNR to nearly quadruple its annual water withdrawal from about 977 million to 3.7 billion gallons for its quarry expansion near the Mississippi River in Clayton County—some residents worry the change may affect local wells and allow out-of-state water sales, and a public hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. on April 22 in Elkader to gather input.  The Gazette
  • Residents in southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa suffered property damage after a severe thunderstorm dropped baseball sized hail in Platteville, egg sized hail near Tennyson, and ping pong ball sized hail near Guttenberg on Friday morning. Officials urged residents to use caution when hiring repair contractors and to work with insurance companies for safe repairs.  Radio Dubuque
  • Authorities confirmed that invasive spotted lanternflies and their eggs have been found in Iowa today along with 16 other states. Residents are urged to report sightings by calling the Entomology and Plant Science Bureau (515-725-1470) or emailing [email protected] to help stop the bug from spreading.  WJOD
