COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Operated by the City, Miller Riverview Park and Campground will reopen on Monday, April 21 along the Mississippi River after delays caused by relocating its water fill and dump station following last year's flooding. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Cathedral of St. Raphael reopened yesterday after six months of interior renovations finished the final phase of a $10 million improvement project at the church, where over 200 workers helped on a nearly four-year restoration that included campus and exterior repairs like landscaping and fixing leaky roofs. Priests renewed their vows during a Chrism Mass—with a state grant covering $1.8 million and parishioners funding the rest. Radio Dubuque
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Dubuque Community School Board approved a nearly $184 million budget for the coming fiscal year with a unanimous vote Monday night, and the plan raises property taxes from about $13 to $13.05 per $1,000 of taxable value. School officials said lower student numbers and less state aid drove the change (the new rate is still one of the lowest in similar districts). Radio Dubuque
- ➤ The Dubuque Community School District is planning to consolidate its three middle schools into two to address declining enrollment and low state funding, weighing options to build a new school or renovate an existing one. The board will seek community input at an information session on April 28 at 6 p.m.—a move expected to save nearly $2 million annually. KWWL
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Volunteers are out in full force this spring carrying out the Frog and Toad Call Survey by listening at night to record which species call and how many calls are heard. Officials say the data is key to tracking amphibian health + it may help guide future efforts to protect these sensitive species. KCRG
