- ➤ U.S. Cellular said it will cut 4,100 jobs across the country and some Dubuque workers will lose their jobs. The Iowa Workforce Development WARN list shows that 18 employees at the Wacker Plaza store and 6 at the Manchester site will lose their jobs on June 1—this change comes after T-Mobile takes over the company. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police received a suspicious phone call to Hempstead High School around 1:10 p.m. yesterday that forced a lockdown while officers coordinated with Dubuque Community School District staff to secure the campus, and the initial investigation found the threat was not credible. Radio Dubuque
- ➤ Hunter Newberry, a 23-year-old from Boscobel, pleaded guilty in October to possessing with intent to distribute meth and was sentenced this week in federal court to more than 10 years in prison—he must also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after a January 2024 arrest following a traffic stop in Dubuque. - ➤ Trevin Jirak, a 6-foot-9 senior from West Des Moines Valley who earned Iowa’s Mr. Basketball and MaxPreps Player of the Year honors, switched his commitment from Northern Iowa to the Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team on Friday—making him the first local recruit under head coach Ben McCollum.
