- ➤ In March 2024, the Dubuque St. Vincent de Paul Society launched its Back2Work program to help over 50 people find jobs by offering a free 6-day course on job training and life skills. One participant, who was homeless less than a year ago, now earns enough to pay for his own apartment—showing the program's impact. KCRG

- ➤ Dubuque's Zazou’s Bridal works to ease rising wedding dress prices caused by international tariffs—by stocking hundreds of off-the-rack gowns that brides can take home the same day to avoid extra fees. Owner Jodi Stricker said orders placed before the surcharges took effect will not change in cost as vendors absorb the added charges. KWWL
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On April 10, Dubuque Police responded to a reported threat at Hempstead High School and began investigating while coordinating with school staff to boost security during dismissal—initial findings suggest the threat was not credible, though the investigation remains active. WJOD
- ➤ Dubuque man Datreon Adams fired his gun in a neighborhood in April 2024 and pleaded guilty as a felon—he was sentenced to three years in federal prison with an additional two years of supervised release. Radio Dubuque

- ➤ The Dubuque Community School Board awarded renovation contracts for two elementary schools in a special meeting earlier this week. Conlon Construction will upgrade Irving Elementary’s boiler system and add air conditioning starting this summer with a bid of $6,080,000, and TriCon Construction Group will add a gym, classrooms, kitchen and secure entrance at Eisenhower Elementary before school ends—both projects will finish by August 2026.
