BUSINESS NEWS

  • Employees at ASM Global in Dubuque were notified Tuesday that they will lose their jobs by June 30 as the city looks for a new operator for the Five Flags Center. Iowa WARN reported 160 layoffs — part of three mass cuts affecting 940 workers across eastern Iowa.  KCRG

CRIME NEWS

  • Ian Lindsey, aged 42, pleaded guilty in November to diverting fentanyl and illegally accessing patient records at hospitals in Platteville and Dubuque and was sentenced on Wednesday in federal court in Cedar Rapids to three months in prison—he will also serve six months of home confinement, pay a $5,000 fine and complete a three-year term of supervised release.  Radio Dubuque
  • A Peosta man, 33-year-old Bryce Murphy, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to an insurance fraud scheme that falsely claimed stolen Rolex watches from his hotel room while he attended an NFL game—investigators found he had filed a similar claim in 2019 and received nearly $10,000.  Radio Dubuque
  • An Arizona man was sentenced to over seven years in prison after pleading guilty to mailing fentanyl powder, pills containing fentanyl, and methamphetamine from Arizona to Dubuque between March and December 2023 (29-year-old Shawn Lopez-Johnson) and he must serve three years of supervised release (with no possibility of parole).  Radio Dubuque
  • A man from Asbury identified as 20 year old Jinyu Song was arrested after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase that began shortly after midnight Wednesday on Highway 20 and ended near the Mile Hill Lane intersection — he was charged with eluding, operating while intoxicated, interference with official acts and possession of marijuana.  Radio Dubuque

SPORTS NEWS

  • This summer RAGBRAI will leave Iowa for the first time in its 52-year history as it crosses into Minnesota for 15 miles on July 21. The ride will begin in Orange City on July 19 and end in Guttenberg on July 26—riders will make overnight stops in Milford, Estherville, Forest City, Iowa Falls, Cedar Falls and Oelwein.  KWWL
  • For the first time in over 50 years, the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa will cross 15 miles into Minnesota on its second day this summer. The ride will start on July 19 in Orange City and finish in Guttenberg on July 26 as thousands cycle the 406-mile route.  The Gazette
