GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill passed out of the Iowa Senate would exempt pesticide companies from certain lawsuits if the EPA deems products safe — a change that has raised concerns among farmers who worry that chemicals like Roundup may cause long-term health issues. • An Iowa magistrate from Fayette County faced potential sanctions from the Iowa Supreme Court after he used a racial slur in court and made other offensive remarks, with the Judicial Qualifications Commission recommending a 90-day suspension—he apologized and agreed to take any required courses. The justices questioned his judgment and trustworthiness in serving on the bench given his comments.  The Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dubuque County used opioid settlement funds to expand free Narcan access and help lower overdose deaths. It spent $27,500 in December to install vending machines at key community spots and $27,000 in March to purchase 818 boxes of the nasal spray – county staff say its free availability gives people a quick way to get help – as the effort continues.  KCRG
