BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dubuque’s Grand River Center will host three major conferences in early April with more than 1,100 attendees expected. The U.S. Green Buildings Council will start a local government summit on Monday as part of the Growing Sustainable Communities Conference that ends Wednesday—while the Iowa Knights of Columbus Convention runs April 3 to 6 and the Circle Midwest Marketplace is set for April 5 to 8.  Radio Dubuque

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday morning around 11:30 a.m., Dubuque Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department arrested 62-year-old Karen Steffen of Cuba City after receiving a report of a hit-and-run on Highway 151 near the Wisconsin Bridge, and she was cited for a fourth O.W.I. offense—no injuries were reported.  Radio Dubuque

CULTURE NEWS

  • Officials announced that the groundbreaking for the Galena and U.S. Grant Museum will take place next Thursday at 3 p.m. next to the Nelson Stillman House on Bouthiller Street. The $5 million project received a $1.8 million federal grant and a construction contract with Dubuque-based Gronen Restoration and is expected to open in summer 2026.  Radio Dubuque

  • On March 19th, a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit challenging Iowa’s ag-gag law after ruling that free speech does not cover unlawful trespassing on farms & Gov. Kim Reynolds signed bills on Friday that add grooming to the sex offenders list and update open container laws to include THC-infused drinks.  The Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Iowa lawmakers are considering Gov. Reynolds’ House File 972 — a plan to combine student loan programs, create 115 new residency spots, and use $150 million in federal money — to ease the state’s doctor shortage. Health care providers and training programs support the proposal, which passed the House with a 95 to 1 vote and now awaits Senate approval.  The Gazette

  • Ben McCollum, Iowa’s new head men's basketball coach, learned his game from Steve Krafcisin—who was on Iowa's 1980 Final Four team and coached him at NIACC—and Krafcisin said he showed strong shooting and drive. Meanwhile, former Iowa coach Fran McCaffery has taken Penn's men's coaching job and player Payton Sandfort, who played through injuries and broke his wrist in November, will join the College Dunk and 3-Point Championships on Thursday.  The Gazette
