CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dubuque authorities arrested 41-year-old Austin Goodman on March 3 outside City Council Chambers in the Historic Federal Building with a loaded handgun when he planned to protest his interactions with local agencies—he now faces several charges, remains in jail on a $200,000 bond, and is set for trial on November 18 at Dubuque County District Court. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local high school students Saanvi Ram from Hempstead and Nathan Schiesel from Wahlert Catholic were named top finalists by the Dubuque Area Youth Leadership Council and each received a $500 scholarship while they will represent Dubuque at the national Town Meetings on Tomorrow leadership conference in St Louis. Saanvi won the James E. McLead Insightful Award — and additional youth leaders will attend workshops at the University of Dubuque and Loras College to build their skills. WJOD

- ➤ Construction work on gate L27 at O’Hare for Denver Air Connection flights is nearly complete, and airport officials said passengers from Dubuque Regional Airport will have direct access to Terminal 3 beginning this Sunday — eliminating the need for bus transport. This update promises a smoother travel experience for those flying into Chicago. Radio Dubuque
- ➤ After the Iowa Legislature passed a bill with a large margin, Gov. Reynolds is expected to sign it later—if she does, drivers will be banned from holding cell phones or other devices while driving. The new law will raise fines for violations and require officers to issue warnings until Jan. 1, 2026. The Gazette
- ➤ The Iowa Legislature passed a bill that bans handheld cellphone use while driving and sent it to Gov. Kim Reynolds for her signature — if signed, the law will take effect on July 1 with warnings issued then and fines starting at $100 from January 1. The law will allow hands-free use and increases fines if an incident causes injury or death. KCRG
- ➤ The City of Dubuque announced that regular weekly curbside collections for yard waste and food scraps will resume on Monday — residents can purchase single-use stickers at City Hall or local grocery and hardware stores and may get a City-issued tipper cart or annual decal by visiting City Hall, the city website or calling the utility billing office.
