  • Data from the H-1B Employer Data Hub show that in 2024 an employer in the Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services industry from the Dubuque Times area filed seven petitions, and Infoweb Systems, Inc.—the only filer in that sector—achieved a 100% approval rate while filings dropped 12.5% from 2023.  Dubuque Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Ali Younes, an Iowa City man accused of choking a woman and stealing her earrings on the campus in 2022, will face trial on July 8 in Johnson County District Court — he fled to Jordan and returned on his own after a long manhunt, and a judge warned that no further delay would be allowed without a strong reason.  The Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The city of Dubuque and the Arts and Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission are now accepting applications for the Arts and Culture Special Projects grant program for fiscal year 2026—which runs from July 2025 through June and allows a maximum request of $8,000 with a required 50% cash match—and will accept applications until midnight on Friday, April 25.  Radio Dubuque

  • The Gazette is hosting Iowa Ideas In-Depth Week from today through Friday with free virtual talks on agricultural innovation — including advances in drone technology and short corn that promise to improve crop resilience and efficiency. The hourlong sessions at noon each day will explain new farming methods and trends to help local growers and researchers prepare for the future.  The Gazette

  • The Dubuque Senior High Educational Foundation will induct three members into its inaugural Hall of Fame during its Showcase of the Stars fundraising event this Saturday, March 29. The inductees include graduates Katie Kopp and Jennifer Chambers and longtime teacher Tom Cuvelier (35 years at Senior) while nominations for next year will open in the fall.  Radio Dubuque

  • Dubuque County is asking for a jury trial to settle a lawsuit with Dyersville over more than $500K that was fraudulently transferred to an out-of-state bank—Dyersville sued after it expected the funds to support its Field of Dreams project.  Radio Dubuque
  • During Severe Weather Awareness Week, Dubuque County Emergency Management, Iowa Homeland Security and the National Weather Service join forces to teach storm safety with each day focused on a different risk such as lightning, tornadoes, preparedness, hail and wind, or floods. On Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., the county will hold its annual tornado drill — outdoor sirens will sound — and people are asked to review their storm plans.  Radio Dubuque

  • Iowa’s women’s basketball team with a record of 23 to 10 will face Oklahoma with a record of 26 to 7 in the second round of the NCAA tournament today at 3 p.m. at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman—ESPN will air the game as the winner advances to the regional semifinals next weekend in Spokane.  The Gazette
