- ➤ Dubuque police say a new bill that would ban using cellphones unless they are in hands-free or voice-activated mode could help reduce distracted driving and crashes in the city. The police department reported 1,480 crashes (a nearly six percent increase) and seven fatal crashes in 2024; Lt. Luke Bock said that tighter traffic laws are needed because low staffing makes enforcement difficult (a challenge given rising speeding and distraction). KCRG
- ➤ Legislation in the Iowa House passed on Wednesday and would require schools to apply for a waiver so they can follow Iowa-specific nutrition guidelines instead of federal standards—this change could risk millions in school meal funding.
