- ➤ On Monday, Dubuque and Asbury Fire Departments battled a field fire near Lowe's and Walmart in Dubuque — strong winds helped the fire spread and caused power outages — as crews used special equipment to control the blaze. Fire Marshal Derek Paulson said he rarely saw such dry conditions so early in the season and urged residents to follow the county burn ban. KWWL

- ➤ A new sports complex on Chaplain Schmitt Island could bring over $20 million in revenue and more than 1,000 jobs to Dubuque, according to a Dubuque Racing Association study. Mayor Brad Cavanagh said the project will replace current park fields with updated sports venues and build an indoor facility and will need a public—private partnership to cover its $75 million cost. - ➤ Residents of Dubuque County received an average of $10,866 per person in government transfers in 2022 (from Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and income support), ranking the county 23rd lowest among Iowa counties. - ➤ In 2024, 17 nests were watched as Iowa peregrine falcons hatched at least 36 young, averaging 2.77 fledglings per nest compared to 1.9 last year — a record high reproduction rate since 2016.
