COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dubuque is inviting residents, riders & fans to shape the community theme for RAGBRAI 2026 as the city hosts the final stop of the ride, with submissions accepted until next Wednesday via its Dubuque RAGBRAI Facebook page.  KWWL
  • Jim Schmidt, Gabby Petito's stepfather, will keynote two Riverview Center events honoring domestic abuse survivors: Evening of Light on April 21 from 5-8:15 p.m. at Culbies in East Dubuque (Illinois) and Breakfast of Light on April 22 from 7:30-9 a.m. at Bien VenU in Cedar Falls.  KCRG
  • Dubuque residents can enjoy free outdoor ice skating at Allison-Henderson Park; the rink is open daily from 9 AM to 9:30 PM with lights on from 4 PM and operates on a first-come, first-served basis for pickup hockey or family fun.  WJOD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Grand Harbor Resort will soon become a Radisson hotel as new owners plan to update its rooms and water park. Last month, Riddle's Group purchased the resort at auction for a dollar over the starting bid on a city-owned plot, and renovations will begin in the near future.  WJOD
  • John Deere will recall 99 workers to Iowa facilities due to surging production demand. The mid-February recall will have 75 employees returning to Davenport Works + 24 rejoining Dubuque Works to support assembly tasks.  KWWL
  • 1st & Main in downtown announced it will close permanently on Monday, Feb. 2 after slow business made operations unsustainable, the owners said.  KWWL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The National Mississippi River Museum is hosting its River of Love campaign through Feb. 14, where residents can send a $5 Valentine to otters, turtles, rattlesnakes, and jellyfish to help fund animal care (supporting enrichment and habitat improvements).  WJOD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Northeast Iowa Community College downtown campus in Dubuque is set to undergo a $1.4 million renovation that will add a new entrance and modernized instructional spaces. School officials said the Board of Trustees will vote on project plans next month and the work is expected to finish by next January.  Radio Dubuque
