Good morning, Dubuque.

Iowa DOT said that heavy snowfall with bitter cold nearly made eastern roads unsafe but persistent plowing and salt treatments keep highways clear today.

Drivers are advised to carry warm clothing, fill up gas, and be prepared for further weather challenges (officials urge caution due to the cold).

Dubuque is extending its warming centers until Monday to help residents as wind chills are expected to feel 20 to 30 below zero today and through Saturday morning (shelter hours posted locally).

Dubuque Regional Airport and TSA will host a TSA Pre-Check enrollment event from Tuesday, Feb.

24 to Friday, Feb. 27 with walk-in appointments available (though appointments are recommended).

With dangerously cold temperatures in eastern Iowa, Alliant Energy crews are delaying routine work to handle emergency outages while stocking supplies to maintain safety; some local homeowners use alternative heating methods (such as outdoor wood boilers) to keep consistent heat.

Experts advise staying indoors when possible.
